Shamo

SHAMO tells the story of the psychotic anti-hero Ryo (Shawn Yue), and his rise through the brutal world of competition fighting.
After barbarically slaughtering his parents, 16 year old Ryo is sent to a prison for boys. Continually tortured by his fellow inmates, Ryo takes up karate training after a savage beating leaves him almost dead. Returning to society after 3 years, Ryo catches the attention of the local triads for his natural ferocity and dedication to destruction.
Convinced to enter underground, no rules fighting tournaments, Ryo easily demolishes the competition. Seemingly unstoppable, Ryo's inevitable confrontation with champion Sugawara (Masato) may be his only chance for respect by the society that has so completely rejected him.
Based on the manga by Izo Hashimoto, Shamo tells the tale of juvenile delinquent Ryo Narushima (Shawn Yue), who's sentenced to a correctional institute after he snaps and murders his parents one fine spring morning. A thin, mousy boy, Ryo actually seems quite okay, but that doesn't matter to his new pals in the slammer. He's treated to some extreme physical affection in the men's room by his fellow inmates, turning him into a desperate, broken young man looking for an exit - even if it's self-induced. Help arrives in the form of Kenji Kurokawa (Francis Ng), a karate master who's assigned to instruct the inmates in the ways of extreme bodily harm. Teaching dangerous, sometimes deranged criminals to hone their bodies into lethal weapons?

God Man Dog

God Man Dog is a Taiwanese film directed by Singing Chen . The title of the film in Chinese translates as "Wandering God Man Dog" and the film wanders between three story lines which come to a surprising intersection near the end of the film.
The character of Yellow Bull played by Jack Kao is the real star of this film. He comes across a simple man who travels to religious festivals and collects statues of deities. His main struggle in life is getting together enough money for a new artificial leg. He pairs up with Hsien , a homeless youth. Although both have little material wealth they seem content with life and accept whatever happens to them.
Yellow Bull and Hsien are a contrast to the couple Ching, played by Tarcy Su, and Hsiung who live in an opulent Taipei apartment. Ching is battling with post-natal depression and their relationship seems to be headed for self-destruction. The third story line focuses on Biung, a Bunun man from Taidong and his kick boxing daughter, Savi. Biung struggles with alcoholism and his daughter seems unable to forgive him.
The major theme of this film is religion. It is filled with religious imagery and delivers some poignant messages about what it truly means to practice religion. Some of the characters desperately grasp at religion as a savior from their problems, but it is the "wanderers" for whom religion forms a natural part of their lives that seem most happy and at ease. Biung seeks help from the church to overcome his alcohol problem but the local minister spends more time berating him than giving support. Ching converts to Christianity in the hope of being saved, but it seems to lead her nowhere. It is Yellow Bull for whom religion is part of daily life and uncontrived who works a little magic.
Follws the daily lives of different people, observing the reserved way they go about their lives: a well off married couple from Taipei who have become more and more estranged and have slowly fallen silent since the birth of their child; a fruit dealer from the countryside and his wife who try together to battle his alcohol problem; a young woman who works out her aggressions through kickboxing; a young boy who roams around, and a lonely man who delivers massive statues of the Buddha. Some of these people take surprising turns while some of them cross eachother's paths and fates.

Call For Love

The hero has a "magica" cell phone. Every time he dials a button, a pretty woman appears with a romantic or frantic experience. Seven celebrities took the roles of the "seven women" symbolizing seven different aspects of love and marriage. A good script and good cast, however, could not survive poor directing and photography. Such movies should at least be filled with modern and beautiful scenes which are totally missing in Call for Love, even though it was shot in Beijing.

My DNA Says I Love You

Neat freak Gigi (Terri Kwan), who changes boyfriends almost as quickly as she changes her underwear, and depressive Marlene (Yu Nan), who pines for her workaholic lover (Lin Yu-lun), both work for a biotech company that manufactures character-changing pills. One day, to snag a slobby guy (Peter Ho) she fancies, Gigi decides to take some untested pills, which causes all kinds of chaos. Meanwhile, Marlene is romanced by her landlord's son, handyman Teddy (Eddie Peng). Bubbly and sexy, Kwan ("The Heirloom") nails the fast, loopy tone the pic needs, and gets good support from most of the cast. However, Yu, more adept at drama ("Tuya's Marriage"), seems miscast, dragging the picture down and not creating any special chemistry with Kwan. Though pic is set in a deliberately nonspecific, clinically neat Anytown, China, the prevailing mood and humor are very Taiwanese, making Yu (the sole Mainlander among the leads) further seem like a square peg in a round hole.
